JOB VACANCY: Healder / Knotter at Bower Roebuck & Co

Location: Glendale Mills, New Mill, Holmfirth, West Yorkshire

Position: Full-time, Permanent

Salary: £27,966 – £31,434 per hour (including shift allowance), depending on experience

Weaving heritage with innovation since 1899

At Bower Roebuck & Co. Ltd, we’ve been creating world-class worsted fabrics in the heart of Yorkshire for over a century. Our craftsmanship, creativity, and commitment to sustainability have made us trusted partners to some of the world’s most prestigious fashion and luxury brands.

We’re now looking for an experienced Healder/Knotter to join our weaving team — someone who takes pride in their work, thrives in a hands-on environment, and shares our passion for excellence in textile manufacturing.

The Role

As a Healder/Knotter, you’ll play a key part in preparing our looms for production — ensuring each warp is correctly set up and our weaving process runs seamlessly. Working within a close-knit team on a weekly rotating shift pattern, you’ll:

  • Operate the automatic drawing-in, knotting, and re-beaming machines
  • Ensure looms are kept in top condition and production efficiency is maintained
  • Log faults, repairs, and maintenance requirements accurately
  • Clean and maintain reeds, healds, droppers, and shafts
  • Support daily and weekly preventative maintenance routines
  • Uphold the highest standards of safety, quality, and craftsmanship

What You’ll Bring

  • Proven experience in a similar healding, knotting, or weaving preparation role
  • Strong hands-on skills and mechanical awareness
  • An understanding of woven design and textile processes
  • A positive, adaptable attitude and good problem-solving skills
  • Commitment to safe systems of work and continuous improvement
  • A collaborative spirit — willing to share knowledge and help others grow

(Textile-related qualifications are desirable, but experience and passion matter most.)

Why Join Bower Roebuck?

  • 30 days holiday (including bank holidays) plus Christmas shutdown
  • Contributory pension scheme
  • Company sick pay and life insurance (3x basic pay)
  • Eye test vouchers and wellbeing support
  • Social and charitable events throughout the year
  • Opportunity to work with world-leading luxury brands
  • A supportive culture built on teamwork, tradition, and innovation

Hours & Pay

  • 39 hours per week, rotating weekly shifts:
  • Early: 6am – 2pm (6am – 1pm Fridays)
  • Late: 2pm – 10pm (1pm – 8pm Fridays)
  • £27,966 – £31,434, depending on skills and experience
