Textile Engineering Technicians play a vital role in maintaining and improving the machinery, equipment and systems used throughout textile manufacturing operations.
Working across a range of environments, including spinning, weaving, knitting, dyeing, finishing and technical textiles, technicians ensure production processes run safely, efficiently and to the highest quality standards.
Employers range from small specialist manufacturers to large-scale textile production businesses operating across sectors including fashion, interiors, automotive, medical and industrial textiles.
What Will Your Apprentice Learn?
Throughout this apprenticeship, learners will develop the technical knowledge, practical skills and behaviours required to maintain and improve textile manufacturing equipment and processes.
Apprentices will learn how to:
- Maintain, service and repair textile manufacturing machinery and equipment.
- Diagnose faults using a range of testing and problem-solving techniques.
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance to minimise downtime and improve productivity.
- Interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications and maintenance documentation.
- Work safely and comply with health, safety and environmental regulations.
- Use engineering tools, measuring equipment and diagnostic technology effectively.
- Understand mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems used within textile manufacturing environments.
- Support the installation, commissioning and optimisation of textile production equipment.
- Monitor equipment performance and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
- Communicate effectively with colleagues across production, quality and engineering teams.
- Record and report maintenance activities accurately using company systems and procedures.
- Apply lean manufacturing principles to improve efficiency, quality and sustainability.

Successful completion leads to a Level 3 Textile Engineering Technician qualification, recognised across the textile industry.
