Our popular Skills Bootcamps are back.
Bookings are now open for Cohort 7 of the Textile Centre of Excellence’s award-winning Textile Manufacturing Skills Bootcamp, a programme that has become one of the Centre’s biggest success stories.
Previous cohorts have been oversubscribed and learner satisfaction has reached 100%. For the first time, however, this cohort will run without government funding. Rather than let a programme that businesses clearly value come to an end, we looked for another way.
Thanks to the generous support of The Weavers’ Company, The Clothworkers’ Company, CapitB Trust and The Woolmen Charity, Cohort 7 is going ahead and the programme remains 90% funded. The cost to employers is just £350 + VAT per delegate.
Their support means more people can continue to develop the specialist knowledge our industry needs, while businesses can give employees an understanding of textile manufacturing that is difficult to gain within one job, department or mill.
From fibre to finished fabric
Across 10 weeks, learners follow the textile journey from raw fibre through spinning, weaving, dyeing, finishing, nonwovens, sustainability, quality and testing.
Technical learning is backed up by something even more valuable: the opportunity to get inside working textile businesses and see those processes for real with visits to British Wool, Haworth Scouring, Lawton Yarns, Wooltex Spinning, Antich & Sons, Park Valley Dyers, Camira Fabrics, WT Johnson, Heckmondwike FB, Abraham Moon and AW Hainsworth.
Martin Jenkins, Director of Training of the Textile Centre of Excellence, said:
It is that access to real production environments, alongside specialist technical learning, that makes this programme so valuable. Learners follow the textile journey from fibre through to finished material, gaining a much broader understanding of the industry and how each stage of the supply chain connects.“This has become our most popular course because it gives people something they simply cannot get from a classroom alone. They meet the people making textiles, see the machinery running and understand how the decisions made at one stage affect everything that follows.“When government funding was no longer available for this cohort, we did not want to lose a programme that has proved so valuable to our industry. We are hugely grateful to The Weavers’ Company, The Clothworkers’ Company, CapitB Trust and The Woolmen Charity for stepping in and helping us make Cohort 7 possible.”
Shahban Aziz, Managing Director of the Textile Centre of Excellence, added:
For those looking for work, by giving young people a clear route into skilled employment, real exposure to industry and the confidence to build a career, programmes like this are transformational in playing an important role in tackling the growing number of young people who are not in education, employment or training.”
Created for the textile and advanced manufacturing sector
The Textile Manufacturing Skills Bootcamp was developed around the needs of manufacturers, not adapted from a generic training programme. That approach has helped make it our most popular course.
Previous cohorts have filled quickly and the programme has received excellent feedback from both learners and employers. An independent Kirklees Council audit described it as:
A very high-quality programme, with impressive teaching and clear progression from the learners. This meets the needs of the textile manufacturers.”
For experienced employees, the Bootcamp provides a wider view of an industry they may have worked in for years. For newer employees, it gives them the foundations to understand the sector much faster. For people looking to start a career in textiles, it provides rare access to some of the businesses and people at the heart of UK manufacturing.
Places will go quickly
Previous cohorts have been oversubscribed and interest is already expected to be high. The programme is 90% funded, with a cost of just £350 + VAT per delegate.
