At the Textile Centre of Excellence (TCoE), we offer a bespoke Level 3 Advanced Upholsterer Apprenticeship designed to equip apprentices with the practical skills, knowledge and behaviours needed to excel in modern and traditional upholstery and furniture-making environments.
Our apprenticeship combines hands-on experience with tailored training to ensure learners are ready to undertake a wide range of upholstery operations, from traditional restoration techniques to contemporary furniture production and vehicle manufacturing, supporting both craft and manufacturing sectors.
What Will Your Apprentice Learn?
The Advanced Upholsterer Apprenticeship is designed to equip learners with the skills to create and restore furniture using both traditional and modern methods. Apprentices gain practical, hands-on experience in:
Frame Construction & Repair: Building and restoring furniture frames for durability and comfort
Upholstery Techniques: Advanced methods such as deep-buttoning, fluting, and float detailing
Material Knowledge: Understanding the properties of fillings and coverings, from natural fibres to modern synthetics
Machinery Skills: Operating tools and machinery used in contemporary upholstery production
Design & Estimation: Creating bespoke pieces and providing accurate project timelines and costings
Quality Assurance: Ensuring all products meet industry and customer standards
