SEWING MACHINIST – LEVEL 3

Overview:

Sewing machinists are crucial in the manufacturing sector, producing sewn products and conducting repairs. These products range from aviation textiles, clothing, leather goods, marine textiles, medical textiles, to soft furnishings. Sewing machinists use industrial sewing machines and hand-sewing techniques, applying methods such as lockstitching, blind hemming, cover stitch, cup seaming, ruffling, and linking.

Duties:

  1. Preparation:
    1. Obtain materials and accessories.
    2. Prepare equipment and machinery.
  2. Sewing Operations:
    1. Perform sewing tasks to meet product instructions, quality, and speed standards.
  3. Quality Assurance:
    1. Check stitching and other quality assurance activities.
    2. Rectifying Issues:
    3. Undo stitching and re-sew items to fix issues.
    4. Preparation for Next Stage:
    5. Organise batches, pack, and dispatch sewn products.
    6. Workplace Maintenance:
    7. Maintain health, safety, environmental, and sustainable practices.
    8. Machine Maintenance:
    9. Conduct basic maintenance to ensure machinery efficiency.
    10. Record Keeping:
    11. Complete digital or paper-based work records for production and quality checks.
    12. Continuous Improvement:
    13. Participate in improvement and problem-solving activities.
