Investing in Understanding: Our Team’s CPD Day on Neurodiversity

At the Textile Centre of Excellence, we are committed to creating an environment where every learner has the opportunity to thrive. As part of that commitment, our team recently came together for a full day of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) focused on Neurodiversity – delivered by Caitlin Whitmore, a specialist ADHD Coach.

Over recent years, we have witnessed a notable increase in the number of neurodivergent students joining us at the Centre. Conditions such as ADHD, dyslexia, autism, and dyspraxia are increasingly recognised, and with that comes both a responsibility and an opportunity for educators and training providers to adapt how they teach and support their learners.

We wanted our tutors and support staff to feel confident, informed and equipped – not only to understand the different types of neurodivergent conditions, but to identify the most effective strategies for getting the very best out of every student in their care.

What the Day Covered

Led by Caitlin Whitmore, whose expertise as a specialist ADHD Coach brings a practical, grounded perspective to the subject, the session took our team through a broad range of topics, including an overview of the neurodiversity spectrum, how neurodivergent conditions can present differently in learners, practical strategies to support students in a training setting, and the importance of open, supportive communication between staff and students.

It was an engaging, thought-provoking day that generated a great deal of discussion and reflection across the team.

Our Commitment to Every Learner

We believe that understanding is the foundation of great teaching. By investing in our team’s knowledge and awareness, we are better placed to create a learning environment that is inclusive, supportive and responsive to the needs of every individual.

We are committed to ensuring that every student who walks through our doors – regardless of how their mind works – feels seen, supported, and given every opportunity to succeed.

A sincere thank you to Caitlin Whitmore for delivering such an insightful and impactful session. We look forward to putting everything we have learned into practice.
