This role ensures the integrity and consistency of yarn and fabric quality through rigorous testing, analysis, and collaboration across production and design teams.
Supporting the Production and Quality teams in ensuring excellent standards of yarn and fabric performance, and shade continuity through testing, data analysis, reporting, and corrective action planning where appropriate.
Developing and maintain processes that enable timely completion of production and development testing, QC checks, and resolution of queries arising from production areas and external materials supply.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct and document testing of yarn and shade samples for compliance with established standards
- Work with Quality and cloth production colleagues to understand the impact of non-conforming yarn on production, and with Yarn procurement and suppliers to resolve
- Maintain records for yarn and fabric shade continuity and colour fastness (traceable from base material through to finished fabric). Work with the lab managers to analyse this data for trends and introduce corrective/ improvement action plans where appropriate
- Investigate finished fabric shade queries to establish root cause/trends and work with all related departments to agree resolutions and plan corrective actions where required
- Lead investigations, into colourfastness collaborating with internal teams, and suppliers to implement improvements.
- Work with Design and the Dyehouse/Blending/Yarn team on matching and creating new yarn blend colours.
- Perform fabric and yarn Quality testing activities where workload across the departments demands
Working Environment
- On site, lab-based role
- Regular use of testing equipment
- The role requires the ability to move between different areas of the mill to carry out yarn testing.
Skills & Competencies
- Minimum level 3 qualification in Textiles or related subject
- Knowledge of yarns, fabric constructions and finishing processes
- Work experience in textile testing and colour/shade assessment
- Exceptional colour vision and a good eye for detail – a colour vision test will be required
- Strong organisational, analytical and communication skills
- Good presentational skills (mounting samples for visual assessment, records etc)
- Competent to carry out activities under ISO/IEC 17025 lab conditions
- Proficient with Microsoft applications
- Proactive team player with strong customer service understanding and problem-solving skills
