SEWING ACADEMY
In partnership with The Clothworkers’ Company, the Centre runs a series of training workshops at its Fashion Industry Training Academy. This programme aims to provide industry relevant training to job seekers and new entrants into the sector, ensuring their work-readiness and skills development are at the levels expected for roles in fashion and textile production.
Typical programmes run for 4-8 weeks, and liaise closely with the local job referral agencies, recruitment providers and local firms to create a talent pool to meet the current and future needs of industry.
64 places are available throughout the year and courses are delivered at set times throughout the calendar.
Candidates will start on the Centre’s 2 day per week training programme where they will learn all the key aspects of basic stitching, machinery setup and maintenance, tensions, changeovers etc. Our programme is detailed on the reserve of this flyer. The programme will be tutored by industry specialists. Learners will achieve the Level 1 Award in Fashion & Sewing Skills qualification.
Work Experience Placement
Companies will be asked to provide work placements for up to 2 weeks to assess the candidate’s suitability for employment. During this time, our tutors will visit your business to check the candidate’s progress and ensure that the placement is valuable and beneficial for both parties. Companies are welcome to come and review candidate work and identify which candidates they might want for placement
Cost
There is no fee for this programme. The Centre will manage all aspects, in partnership with DWP and the local Job Centres.
