Two TCoE apprentices shortlisted for Kirklees Adult Learner Awards

We are proud to share that Rhys Hughes and Jackie Knapton have been shortlisted for the Kirklees Adult Learner Awards, taking place on Thursday 22 October.

Both have inspiring stories that demonstrate the opportunities apprenticeships can offer, whether someone is finding their feet at the start of their working life or pursuing a new career later on.

Rhys Hughes: recognition for an inspiring journey

Rhys has overcome challenges at the start of his career to thrive in his workplace, recently completing his Textile Manufacturing Operative Apprenticeship.

His progress reflects his determination and commitment to developing his skills, supported by the opportunity to learn and gain experience in the workplace.

This latest nomination follows recognition at TCoE’s 50th Anniversary Awards in April, where Rhys received the Chris Antich Inspiration Award in recognition of his inspiring journey.

Jackie Knapton: a new career in textiles

For Jackie, a move from the care sector marked the beginning of a new career in textiles later in life.

Taking on a Laboratory Technician Apprenticeship gave her the opportunity to develop specialist knowledge and practical skills while establishing herself in a different industry.

Having successfully completed her apprenticeship, Jackie is now flourishing in her new profession. Her achievements show that learning and career development can happen at any age, and that previous experience in another sector can be the starting point for a rewarding new direction.

Celebrating their achievements

Congratulations on being shortlisted, Rhys and Jackie, and good luck for the Kirklees Adult Learner Awards. Everyone at the Textile Centre of Excellence looks forward to celebrating your achievements.
