Conversion Cutting Operative (Trainee)
Hours after training: Monday – Thursday, 12 noon – 9:30pm (30 minute unpaid break per day), Fridays, 11am – 4:30pm
Band 1 Basic – £12.71 per hour, increases after full training course to Band 3 Basic at £12.87 per hour
We are looking for a highly motivated individual, with a passion for textiles, to join the fast-paced Conversion Department. If you enjoy a physical job, working independently, have a keen eye for detail, good computer skills and being part of a team; this job could be right for you.
Role and Responsibilities:
- Selection of the correct fabric, quality, colour and grade from stock to complete Production orders.
- Mechanically cut fabric, fold and pack, to the required dimensions and quantities as specified on the cutting instructions.
- Use of digital flatbed cutting machinery, industrial log slitter, mechanical punch, manual cutting systems and handheld rotary cutters.
- Inspection of fabrics before and during cutting to ensure that pieces are on specification for appearance and colour.
- Ability to work out solutions to completing cutting orders if there is identification of faults or other issues within fabrics.
- Completion of production orders on computerised system to convert fabric to finished items and label with branded identification and barcode.
- Working with the warehouse and final inspection teams to achieve scheduled and same day despatches.
- Working as part of the team to ensure housekeeping of the machinery, equipment and departmental areas are kept at a high standard.
- Involvement with continual improvement and project-based tasks within the department.
- Assist with inventory management of consumable items and stock takes as required.
- Collaborate effectively with immediate and surrounding teams, adapting and assisting with varying tasks based on production demands and customer dispatch deadlines.
Necessary skills needed for the role:
- Excellent attention to detail when handling and processing pieces.
- Ability to clearly follow written, verbal and numerical instructions.
- Good computer skills.
- A flexible and enthusiastic approach to work.
- The ability to prioritise and organise your own workload.
- The capability to remain calm under pressure.
- Good level of physical fitness and ability to work on feet all day.
Desirable:
- Previous experience working with textiles
- Previous experience of working with cutting machinery
