Job Title: Trainee Multi skilled Cloth Production Operative  

Department:  Cloth Production

Reports to: Production Manager

Hours: Monday to Friday alternate weeks 6am to 2pm and 2pm to 10pm

Wage: £12.85 per hour (start)

Purpose

You will work alongside experienced Colleagues, learning the technical craft of cloth production, including twisting-in and weaving. Being a valued member of the team you will contribute to the quality and efficiency, ensuring Health & Safety compliance. The role plays a key role in preserving Abraham Moon & Sons craftsmanship and heritage while building the foundations of a skilled career

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in minimising loom downtime by supporting job changes, weft changes, piece felling and weaving, by working alongside tuners, weavers and twisters
  • Learn to understand and interpret peg plans, drafts etc
  • Learn weaving principles including set up, operating and monitoring
  • Recognising faults, and how to respond to these quickly to avoid long running issues and troubleshooting
  • Ensure fabric meets design, patterns and quality
  • Assist and check lease bands, rods, warp sheets and ensure all ends are in the lease and warped to pattern
  • Support setting up drawing in and knotting machines, ensuring correct picking needle size
  • Maintain a safe working environment by strictly adhering to company Health & Safety rules and procedures
  • Maintain high standards of housekeeping
  • Assist with safe movement of materials and finished pieces

Training

Completing training programme whilst gaining valuable experience

  • Preparing for textile manufacturing operations
  • Operating machinery and equipment following Standard Operational procedures (SOP)
  • Complete Quality Assurance activities
  • Prepare materials
  • Contribute to maintaining the workplace environment (H&S)
  • Conduct basic maintenance
  • Complete work records
  • Contribute to continuous improvement

Skills and Experience

  • Maths & English level 2
  • Interest in mechanics, engineering
  • Team worker, with excellent communication skills
