Based at Sheepscar Tannery in Leeds, Charles F Stead are one of the UK’s most respected producers of fine suede and leather, supplying some of the world’s leading shoe and bag manufacturers with materials of exceptional quality, character and durability.

Charles F Stead consider suede production to be a craft, and they have remained faithful to the artisanal skills, techniques and know-how that others have forgotten – working their suede in the traditional way while embracing modern production technologies where they add value. Each hide is treated as an individual, with quality never compromised in pursuit of yield.

Their range of classic suedes, grain leathers and specialist finishes – including their well-known Bronto Suede, Repello Gum Oil and Rough Out ranges – reflect decades of expertise and an unrelenting commitment to producing the finest natural leathers available.

Sustainability and Quality

Charles F Stead operate a rigorous environmental management system and are proud members of the Leather Working Group, audited every 18 months. All incoming raw materials are tested on arrival, and leathers are subject to a full range of quality control checks before despatch – ensuring every product that leaves their tannery meets the very highest standards.
