Ofsted sets out new proposals for grading system

The Government agency responsible for inspecting and regulating education in England released its new inspection grading system on Monday, which has received mixed feedback from academic institutions. Following the review of the way Ofsted inspections are carried out, graded assessments have been replaced with a new ‘5 point report card’. Unlike the current model, where organisations are graded and given an outcome against a 4-point system, the new colour-coded grading scale ranges from “exemplary” to “causing concern”. Director of Training at the Textile Centre, Martin Jenkins said “Ofsted inspections are extremely stressful events, and we are due to be inspected next year. Anything that improves and simplifies the process but maintains the focus on high quality education, should be welcomed. We are still digesting the new structure, and it will take some time to adjust to the new expectations. As a highly regarded Independent Training Provider that almost secured an Outstanding [Grade 1] in our last inspection, we will be keeping a keen eye on the first tranche of Colleges and ITPs that are inspected under the new model”.
