We’re delighted to announce that we have been shortlisted in the West Yorkshire Apprenticeship Awards 2026 for Training Provider of the Year, alongside one of our outstanding apprentices, Desmond Norris of Abraham Moon & Sons.

The awards recognise excellence in apprenticeships across the region, celebrating individuals and organisations making a real impact through skills development and workforce training.

Celebrating Desmond Norris

Desmond joined Abraham Moon & Sons in July 2024 as a Level 2 Textile Manufacturing Operative apprentice after pursuing a career that better suited his passion for hands-on manufacturing and creativity.

Since joining the internationally renowned textile manufacturer, Desmond has become a highly valued member of the team, operating specialist fibre blending machinery used in the production of premium woollen fabrics supplied around the world. Most recently, fabric processed by Desmond featured in a bespoke woollen hat worn by Billie Eilish at the Brit Awards.

Throughout his apprenticeship, Desmond has demonstrated exceptional commitment, technical ability and leadership potential. His strong attitude to learning, combined with his willingness to support colleagues and mentor new recruits, quickly set him apart within the business.

In 2025, Desmond was promoted to Team Leader in the Blending Department — a remarkable achievement in such a specialist manufacturing environment. He also completed his End Point Assessment with a Distinction, further highlighting his dedication and capability.

Looking Ahead

We’re incredibly proud to see both our own achievements and Desmond’s recognised at such a prestigious awards platform, and we look forward to the awards evening celebrating other apprentices, employers and training providers across the region.

The awards take place on Thursday 14 May and we look forward to celebrating alongside fellow finalists from across the region.
