JOB VACANCY: Textile Conversion Operative at AW Hainsworth & Sons

Textile Conversion Operative – 37.5 hours per week

Band 1 Basic – £12.71 per hour

Hours: Monday to Thursday, 12 noon – 9:30pm (30 minute unpaid break each day) and Fridays, 11am – 4:30pm

We are looking for a highly motivated individual, with a passion for textiles, to join the fast-paced Conversion Department. If you enjoy a physical job, working independently, have a keen eye for detail, good computer skills and being part of a team; this job could be right for you.

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Mechanically cut or tear fabrics to the required dimensions and quantities as specified on the cutting instructions, with the selection the correct fabric, quality, colour and grade from stock to complete production orders. Ability to work out solutions to completing cutting orders if there is identification of faults or other issues within fabrics.
  • Folding and bagging of blankets and other products, adding brand or customer labelling and barcoding.
  • Operating industrial sewing machines for basic finishes and the final product labelling to customer specifications.
  • Hand construction and use of mechanical equipment for product assembly.
  • Inspection of fabrics before and during processing to ensure that pieces are on specification for appearance, handle and colour.
  • Completion of production orders on computerised system to convert fabric to finished items for warehouse to pick for despatch to scheduled date.
  • Working as part of the team to ensure housekeeping of the machinery, equipment and departmental areas are kept at a high standard.
  • Involvement with continual improvement and project-based tasks within the department.
  • Assist with inventory management of consumable items and stock takes as required.
  • Collaborate effectively with immediate and surrounding teams, adapting and assisting with varying tasks based on production demands and customer dispatch deadlines.

Necessary skills needed for the role:

  • Excellent attention to detail when handling and processing products.
  • Ability to clearly follow written, verbal and numerical instructions.
  • Good computer skills.
  • A flexible and enthusiastic approach to work.
  • The ability to prioritise and organise your own workload.
  • The capability to remain calm under pressure.
  • Good level of physical fitness.

Desirable:

  • Previous experience working with textiles
  • Previous experience of working with cutting or industrial sewing machines.
